Best Beach Conditions for a Photo Session
FAQ: What Are the Best Beach Conditions for a Photo Session?
Great question and one I get asked often!
In my experience as a beach photographer in Pennington, the best conditions for a photo session are usually early mornings before 10am. Thatโs when the light is soft and flattering, and the wind is typically calm. This is perfect for keeping hair and sand under control.
Sunrise times vary depending on the season. In summer, it can be as early as 5am, while in winter itโs closer to 7am. Planning around the light is key to getting those dreamy, natural tones that suit the South Coast vibe.
Tide conditions also play a role. Rough seas can bring rip tides, while low tide often reveals beautiful textures and rock pools. I always do a quick beach scout before a session to check for clean, safe areas especially after storms, which can leave behind driftwood or litter.
One of my favourite quirks? In winter, the sea often feels warmer than the sand under your feet. Itโs a strange but lovely surprise!
And while sunny days are popular, I actually prefer overcast skies. They create soft, even light with no harsh shadows or squinting which is ideal for capturing relaxed, natural moments during your family beach session.
